  WHAT HAPPENED?

  With Ruben Loftus-Cheek suspended for the clash, the Rossoneri have been dealt a midfield blow and have no other attacking midfield options on the bench. One solution would be to play with three central midfielders, but the other he is evaluating would be moving Pulisic into the spot of the England international.

  THE BIGGER PICTURE

  In January, the Milan boss toyed with the idea of implementing Pulisic as a trequarista in the midfield, but it never came to be. Now, however, his hand could be forced with a midfield shortage. By doing so, Nigeria international Samuel Chukwueze would occupy the right flank and Pulisic would navigate the final-third as an attacking midfielder. The American has 12 goals and eight assists for Milan this campaign, and will look to build on it at the weekend, just from a different position on the pitch.

  “It’s a solution we are evaluating,” said Pioli regarding Pulisic playing in a No. 10 role.

  “I am delighted with Chukwu,” Pioli added. “My collaborators showed him some videos today, and the stats we collected in the last three games are even superior to those from his time at Villarreal. He is fit, physically and mentally, he must continue like this. He has important characteristics for the attack.”
